How to get rid of a cold

A handful of easy & simple tips to get rid of a cold fastLast Monday, I woke up with a nasty cold. It wasn’t something that I felt coming and my week was pretty much packed with events & meetings so spending it in my bed wasn’t really an option. Furthermore, I am yet to meet someone who enjoys being stuck at home for days with a bad flu. But, those things happen and we need to deal with them no matter what. Hopefully, I have a couple of tips that might help you to get rid of that nasty cold a little bit quicker.

Hydrate yourself

This is the number one thing to get a fast & healthy recovery, drink a lot! Water is the best option, of course, but if you’re like me, water doesn’t really sound fun. But instead of going for a soda full of sugar, try this instead. Mix sparkling water with a tiny bit of grapefruit juice and add a sprinkle of cayenne pepper. This concoction will get you back on your feet super quickly. Plus, it tastes amazing!

Wash your hands

I know that this tip probably sounds silly to most of you but your hands are getting packed with bacterial when you’re sick. Think about it, you use your hands when you sneeze, cough and you’ll probably end up contaminating your whole place if you don’t wash your hands properly and frequently. Try this amazing gentle organic soap or rely on antibacterial gel if you’re stuck in your bed.

Steam is your friend

If you have access to a steam room, this is the time to put it to good use! Steam will help you to sweat all those toxins plus it will help you breathe normally again. Always be careful and never use it if you have fever! If you don’t have a steam room, a bowl of hot water and a towel placed over your head works just as fine. Add a few drops of eucalyptus oil and you’ll feel like yourself again.

Relax and sleep

This is probably the hardest bit for all of us, but getting some good hours of rest is the key to be back on track fast. Take half a day off and nap for a couple of hours to help your body fight this nasty cold. If you can’t sleep, read a little bit but avoid watching too much TV as it will make your eyes super tired. If reading is not an option, listen to an audiobook and let yourself fall asleep!

Natural remedies

While some people rely on cold tablets and advils, I prefer to go for more natural remedies. My favorite tea when I am sick is the Teapigs ginger & lemon tea as it is very refreshing while giving me a nice boost of energy. I always add a teaspoon of organic honey in it to soothe my throat and to make it sweeter as well. Vitamin C is also great so eat plenty of fruits or add a splash of lemon to your water.

Eat healthy

When you’re stuck in your bed, the last thing you want to do is cook a full 3 course meal in your kitchen and you often end up ordering Domino’s as it is quick and convenient. Well, that’s not the best thing to do. Sure, comfort food make you feel great for a couple of minutes afterwards but your body won’t get the nutrients it need to fight your cold. Instead, order from a more healthy place, try to go for Japanese or even Italian instead, or make yourself a very quick & healthy soup by throwing a couple of vegetables and some water into a blender before heating it up.

Freshen up your space

When your cold is finally gone, get your whole place nice & fresh. Open your windows, change your sheets and throw away those nasty tissues to get rid of any bacteria. It might sounds like a daunting task right now but I promise that you’ll feel so much better in a nice clean & fresh bed!
