3 myths about shaving that are completely false

3 myths about shaving that are completely false

Whenever we talk about hair removal with my besties, they’re always surprised that I am still using the Venus razors that I’ve been loving since I was a teenager. Even if I tried a couple of other hair removal methods in the past few years, I still prefer my razor over anything else. But even if I’ve been a fan for over a decade now, I am still surprised to hear so many myths about shaving… so I thought that it was time to address the 3 most common myths about shaving!

Shaving myths debunked

3 myths about shaving that are completely false

Shaving causes hair to grow quicker, darker & thicker

This is by far the most common rumor that I hear about shaving! However, shaving your legs doesn’t have any influence on your hair… Indeed, your hair regrowth & hair colour is completely dictated by your genes, which means that some girls are fortunate and don’t have a lot of hair while other have to deal with a ton of hair! But, I have a few tips to make your shave a bit more effective! First, always prepare your skin by doing a body scrub at least once a week. This ensure that you don’t have any dead skin cells on your skin and that you’ll get a closer shave. Then, make sure to always use either a shaving gel or blades with shave gel bars to make shaving easier and to hydrate your skin. Finally, wait a few minutes after you step in the shower or the bath before shaving. This allows your skin to be more supple and make shaving even easier!

Shaving causes skin to get dry & flaky

The idea that shaving is bad for your skin is another myth that I hear quite often. Yet, after more than a decade spent using razors, I’ve never encountered this issue! I find that shaving is actually better for the skin since you don’t have to use creams that contain bad chemicals for your skin. The key is simply to look after your skin by using a shave gel or blades with shave gel bars which not only make shaving easier but also keep your skin nice & supple. Furthermore, don’t forget to hydrate your skin by using a body lotion on a regular basis and exfoliate your skin one to two times a week to keep it beautiful!

You get cuts every time you shave

Finally, the last myth that I often hear is that you end up cutting yourself each time you shave. Honestly, I can’t even remember the last time that it happened to me! The most important thing to remember is to always use a clean & adapted blade to shave. Which means that you should never use your boyfriend’s razor or use the same blade for weeks! If your skin is pretty sensitive, I would recommend using a shaving gel like the Satin Care violet swirl. I love its smell and it really helps the razor to glide on the skin which prevents any cuts. If you’re in a hurry, the Venus Breeze blades are always a good idea! They have shaving gel bars all around the blades which makes shaving super quick & efficient! Finally, for hard to reach areas like the knees or the bikini, I would totally recommend the new Venus Swirl. Its flexiball is specially design to contour over curves.

There are many more myths about shaving, like ‘shaving multiple times on same area gives a smoother result’ or ‘that it’s okay to use male razors’ but I’ll be happy to answer any questions that you may have, so do not hesitate!

I feel like so many women, especially young girls (early teenage years) get so confused & nervous about hair removal. I remember feeling quite lost myself at that age and I never knew who I should listen to! Just like any other hair removal technique, shaving has quite a lot of myths surrounding it, so I thought that it could be helpful to talk about some of them!

Thank you for your comments, it is so nice to see you regularly on here!
